To better study and understand the neurobiological function of G protein-coupled receptors, it is crucial to have an intimate knowledge of their activation mechanisms at molecular and cellular level, and to have pharmacological tools capable of precisely targeting these receptors in their native environments.
Photopharmacology
Photopharmacology is an emerging strategy that enables biomolecules to be controlled with great spatial and temporal precision by light, through the use of photocontrollable ligands. In collaboration with medicinal chemistry and photochemistry teams, a large part of our work is devoted to developing photopharmacological toolboxes for GPCRs, and more specifically receptors activated by the neuromediators glutamate or adenosine.

Discovery of new compounds of therapeutic interest
GPCRs represent major targets for the discovery and design of new molecules of therapeutic interest. Structural analysis of the GPCRs developed in the team gives access to their activation mechanism and also to the ligand binding mode at the atomic scale. We use this structural information to design molecules that modulate receptor activity.
