Molecular and Structural Mechanisms of Neuromodulation
Project Structural basis of GPCR signaling
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR

GPCRs are receptors composed of a conserved seven-helix transmembrane domain (7TM). GPCRs are subject to important structural dynamics that underlie their biological functions and signal transduction. It is important to understand the conformational changes in the receptor associated with its biological functions. We are using crystallography, X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy under cryogenic conditions to characterise the sequence of events induced by the binding of ligands such as the neurotransmitter glutamate or the neuromodulator adenosine, which ultimately lead to signal transduction and the activation of intracellular signalling partners.
