This research group focuses on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) of the glucagon family, and in particular on receptors for the incretin hormones glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1R) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIPR). These two types of receptors are major therapeutic targets for type 2 diabetes and obesity. We are particularly interested in how islet cells perceive environmental stimuli to regulate pancreatic hormone secretion in response to incretins.

Spatiotemporal signaling is studied in pancreatic islets (murine and human) under normal and diabetic conditions, combining biochemical, molecular biology and fluorescent probe techniques with live cell imaging methods.

More specifically, current projects include:

  • GLP-1R and GIPR signaling and the interest of combined GLP-1/GIP incretin therapy for pancreatic islets
  • Control of calcium exchange between the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria
