Abstract
R&D programme to develop medicinal bacteria derived from the intestinal microbiota for Alzheimer’s disease.
NBX Biosciences is a young start-up company, a spin-off from the Institut Pasteur, based at the Montpellier Institute of Functional Genomics, whose activity is aimed at developing treatments derived from intestinal microbiota to combat neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease.
The work will involve :
– determining the therapeutic potential of these treatments using an in-vivo approach in mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases and analyses: testing batches produced in pre-industrial fermenters, in-vivo treatment in mice and measuring the therapeutic effect by measuring brain markers associated with neurodegenerative diseases, markers of peripheral inflammation and biomarkers linked to the intestinal microbiota,
– to help study the mechanism of action responsible for the therapeutic effect of treatment by manipulating neuronal activity in the gut-brain axis using genetic tools in our pre-clinical models: surgery, manipulation of neuronal activity using DREADD (Designer Receptor Exlusively Activated by Designer Drug) tools, to identify the neuronal and metabolic components underlying the therapeutic effects studied.
We are looking for a serious and motivated student to take part in our adventure to finally see the emergence of an effective and well-tolerated therapy for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
