ANNE-CHARLOTTE FROMAGET, AWARDED BEST POSTER AT THE 25th CONGRESS OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR DEVELOPMENTAL NEUROSCIENCE

Anne-Charlotte Fromaget  is a Ph.D. student in the team “Functional genomics of imprinted genes“. She was awarded the best poster prize at the International Society for Developmental Neuroscience (ISDN) Congress, which brought together ~1000 specialists in neurodevelopment. Her poster entitled “Elongation of Mest RNA into extra-long RNAs drives Copg2 neuronal-specific imprinting during corticogenesis” shows that during the differentiation of embryonic stem cells into brain organoids, the RNA encoded by the Mest gene (implicated in neurodevelopmental disorders) elongates. This long Mest-XL form is enriched in neurons. Mest-XL enters into the territory of the convergent Copg2 gene, leading to its destruction. Why/what is the benefit to neurons of this fine mechanism for regulating gene expression is currently investigated.

Congratulations Anne-Charlotte and all the best for the future!
