Chronique Santé of Thierry Lhermite on France Inter: A new, highly ambitious project on Alzheimer’s disease

On Monday 16 September, Thierry Lhermite, godfather of the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale, highlighted a research project conducted in close collaboration between the team “Molecular and structural mechanisms of neuromodulation” headed by Guillaume Lebon and Cyril Goudet at the IGF and the teams of Dr. Laurent Givalois (goup “Environmental impact in Alzheimer’s disease”) at the “Molecular Mechanisms in Neurodegenerative Dementia” laboratory in Montpellier and Dr Amadeu Llebaria at the Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC) in Barcelona.

This fundamental research project, at the interface between neuropharmacology, neurobiology and medicinal chemistry, consists of evaluating the therapeutic potential of targeting an actor in synaptic transmission in Alzheimer’s disease using photopharmacology, an emerging strategy that enables a drug’s action to be precisely controlled by light.

This project is financially supported by the FRM (https://www.frm.org/en)
